I should have known better

Today I did sort of a dumb thing. I actually sent my husband into the study to hunt through my sock yarn stash. I sold a skein to a fellow knitter on Ravelry and I wanted to send it out to her this afternoon.

See, the problem is that my husband really wasn't aware of the extent of my yarn stash. Compared to some knitters mine is really quite tame. But to non-knitters even a small stash can seem like a lot of yarn. My husbeast knows I have a decent amount of yarn because I have been quite faithfully knitting from my stash for about the past year. I've rarely purchased yarn in the last 12 months (tight budgets do that to a knitter) and when I do buy it I have a project in mind for it. All he knew is that I would disappear into the study and magically return with yarn for a new project. I think that he figured since I have not been buying a lot of yarn that I must have used most of what I have.

Well today he experienced the full extent of my sock yarn stash. I currently have a whole Rubbermaid tub full of it. He was on the phone with me, trying to locate the skein I was after and he said "Jesus woman you have a lot of yarn." I told him it's just my sock yarn.

I don't think he realized that the two Rubbermaid tubs under that one, plus the cart with 5 drawers next to those tubs, and the additional two tubs stuffed under the built-in bed were also all full of yarn. However, those two tubs under the bed are all cheapo acrylic that I really don't count as part of the stash because it's stuff that I would give away if asked to. My stash is the stuff....well someone might get a metal knitting needle through the hand if they tried to swipe it.

I'll just let him think that my sock yarn is the extent of my stash. And I'll start knitting lots of socks so when it runs low I can proudly show him how little stash I have.

And then I'll buy more and squirrel it away. And I'll never so foolishly ask him to go rummaging through my stash again.

That's to funny....good thing that he can't see his mother's stash since she is not near as faithful about finishing things as you are, at least you finish things on a regular basis. So if you have a prijest on needles does it still count as stash or is it then a project and not counted. LOL
