The epic battle of homeowner vs. the yard

Pretty much every muscle in my body is screaming at me today. Yesterday I spent a good amount of the afternoon weeding, trimming, and planting in the yard.

When we moved in this is what the front landscaping looked like.

This is what it looks like now.

Much fuller and greener. Who plants hostas in direct sunlight anyway? By the middle of the summer those pretty green hostas will be scorched and yellow. I may transplant them to the side yard where there's more shade. But not until my arms recover from doing this:

I weeded that whole area (which was a mess) and planted three tomato plants. My strawberries came back with a vengeance this year and I'm so happy. All of that green on the right came from two small plants I put in last year.

This however has become the bane of my husband's existence.

We don't have grass in the backyard as much as we have a carpet of purple flowers. (And dandelions.) So the battle of Man vs. The Yard '07 has begun. I'll let you know who wins. (In the battle of Woman vs. The Yard I say it's either a tie or a draw. I got a lot done but the physical exertion kicked my ass.)

Oh, I'm sorry, you wanted knitting content? Well okay then. I've started this:

And here's how far I am after working on it all weekend.

I had to rip out and start over because I'm using a finer yarn and smaller needles so it wasn't as wide as I wanted. So I added another repeat of the pattern and it's much better.

I also finished blocking the Tulip Socks.

And I have a knitwear model in the making.

Her stitches came out this morning and her forehead looks worlds better than it did last Monday. She doesn't seem to be worse for the wear and other than knowing she got bit by my MIL's dog (Thor, who they decided to put down the next day) she doesn't really seem to understand what happened. It's a relief for me because something like that could so easily make her afraid of dogs for a very long time. I'm glad it didn't because she and Bella are such good buddies.

When we went back to the hospital this morning I told her to not be afraid, that the doctor was just going to take the blue string out of her boo-boo's. She looked right at me, smiled and said "I not scared Mama." Then she asked the doctor, "You take out my stitches?" and her told her yes then she said "okay" and held still so he could do it. Oh, to be 2 and fearless.
