Tidying up

It's spring, which for me always means compulsive fits of cleaning. I hate having clutter and disorganization. I constantly have mental lists going on for things I want to organize. I love anything that makes the clutter in my life seem less chaotic. My MIL bought a shelving unit for toys some time ago that I thought was wonderful. It wasn't long before I bought one for Lilly's room and she and I sorted what toys went into each of the bins. I'll either make her anal like me or she'll need therapy. Maybe both.

But, I've decided this year we are going to clean out the the garage. We swore when we moved in that our garage would be used for cars only since we have a storage shed in the backyard. Well, 3 years later we have Jim's 'project' car, the '81 Camero, boxed in and it's been two winters since my car entered the garage. I told the husbeast that we're going to have a garage sale and whatever we don't sell is going to Goodwill. I am determined to get the garage back this year.

I also plan to take a ton of books to the local used book store to try to unload them. Lilly's going to move into the study eventually and the built in bookcase in there will have to be for her things. I also need to reorganize my books since I have so many that I haven't even read yet.

I'm also going to try really, really hard to pare down the yarn stash. I reorganized my Ravelry que so that all the projects I actually have the yarn for are at the top of my list. Except for an adorable sweater I want to make for Lil, and that only seems fair since I just bought yarn for sweaters for Jim and myself and those are at the top of my list. I've got enough projects lined up that I actually have the yarn for RIGHT NOW to keep me busy for the whole year. So I'm going to really try to limit the money I spend on yarn this year. No more buying yarn without a project in mind. And I typically don't count sock yarn and lace weight as stash enhancement since it's so easy to find projects for it, but I have a ton of both, so no more of that either.

Since I'm not going to be digging this summer (I know, it makes me sad but I would be much sadder if I didn't graduate next spring) I'm also going to tackle the 1.5 closets worth of clothes I have. I know, it's shameful. I use half the closet in the master bedroom and then an entire closet in the study which is the same size as the master bedroom closet. It's a ridiculous amount of clothes for one woman to have. I think we need a closet organization system but I have a feeling if I suggest it the hubby will suggest I use his power tools and put it up myself. I foresee that ending badly.

I hope the weather cooperates this weekend because I want to get started. That way by the time May rolls around I'll be done with the house and ready to go at my insane, over-grown garden. So much to do. The lists in my head never end.

So Kara, was it seeing the vast amounts of things in the spare bedroom here that motivated you? I want to clear all this stuff out also but I have this mental blok that keeps screaming that as soon as I get rid of it I will need it or one of the kids will want it. Maybe if you get yours cleared out I could send some of these things that I've saved down there-just kidding, I know that is not what you had in mind Cindi
