Race socks

This is what I've been working on the last week or so.

And a close-up.

These are "race socks" for mom. Dad takes her to the track for Mother's Day every year and I'm planning on having these finished and blocked in time for her to wear them. She had requested them by race day, but I'm excited about giving them to her in time for Mother's Day. I love that she loves the socks I make her. Unlike mom I hate the race. I was born in Indiana and have spent 90% of my life in this state and if I never see the 500 in person I wouldn't care. It's pretty much the farthest thing I can imagine from my idea of a good time. Race day cookouts are okay. The race is blocked out here. Anyplace else in the world you can watch the 500 live, but in Indy you have to wait until the race is over to watch it on tv. So we would all hang out in the backyard. My mom and dad used to listen to the race on the radio and my dad would grill out. Dad always uses charcoal (and so does my grandpa), so that smell just triggers memories of family cookouts. Plus I think charcoal just makes the food taste better. Wouldn't it figure that I married a gas-grill man? Poo.

  1. I'm working my way through the blog here. LOVE these too. On my list. And what great socks for race day. I haven't attempted the slip stitch bit yet. I'm too distracted by the pretty pooling and striping -- sheesh what a magpie.
